Whilst
visiting Lon Las Menai, you can catch a glimpse of the Isle
of Anglesey, the green stretch of coast across the turbulent
waters of the Menai Straits. Opened in spring 1995, the path
runs for 6.5 kilometers (4 miles) between Caernarfon and Y
Felinheli.

The compacted dust
path departs from the old fortified town of Caernarfon, and
runs parallel with the Menai through urban areas and open countryside
to the outskirts of Y Felinheli.
Located in an idyllic spot on the shores of the Menai, the sheltered village
of Y Felinheli once used to be a busy port, to where slate was carried on a narrow
gauge railway from the quarries at Dinorwig, and from there exported world wide.
Today the Menai Straits is much quieter and a popular sailing venue for local
and visiting sailing enthusiasts. Whilst in the village, the route follows Beach
Road and the High Street, before rejoining the dust path by the old station.
Lon Las Menai is part of Lon Las Cymru, route number 8 on the National Cycle
Network.
