The Rutland Water Ride.
Europe's biggest man made lake provides the backdrop for this family day out, there are two circular rides, 19 miles or 26 miles depending on whether you take in the Hambeldon peninsular or not. As you would expect Rutland water is home to some excellent watersport facilities, some of the best trout fishing in the U.K. and a cruiser. It also has a butterfly park, a nature reserve and a number of information centers.

Perhaps the most famous sight at Rutland is the half flooded Normanton Church which is all that remains of the village that was flooded when the reservoir was created. As you would expect the reservoir has all normal facilities, four major car parks, two snack bars and a club house for the Yachting club, however there are a number of excellent Pubs and Restaurants just away from the cycle path.

The White horse at Empingham has a nice beer garden and serves reasonably priced meals. The Noel Arms at Whitwell, serves superb food, although a little pricey, and has a children's play area. If you take in the peninsular you can visit the exquisite Hambledon Hall (but have your wallet handy) or the smaller and more affordable Finch's Arms. As you travel round the reservoir you can get refreshments at the Horse and Jockey and Lunch at the Normanton Arms. All in all Rutland offers a fantastic family day out, it is already enjoyed by thousands of people each year, you should come and join the fun.
