| In
the heart of modern Milton Keynes, among the new buildings,
the roads and roundabouts and only five minutes from the
concrete cows, lies an unexpected treat. In 12 acres of
woodland, fields, ponds and gardens stands Bradwell Abbey.
The last remains of a 12th century Benedictine priory,
the Abbey is now one of the city's prime historic sites.
Based in the Abbey buildings, the City Discovery Centre
manages this dramatic site as a community resource and
provides education and information services on the new
city of Milton Keynes, its natural environment and its
ancient history. |
 |
During
the week, the staff of the City Discovery Centre are
happy to show visitors around the site or help with local
history research using the Centre's extensive library
and archive collection.
At
weekends there are often special events and on Sundays
there is a tea shop and craft shop to refresh and entertain
Redway walkers and cyclists.
