Distance - 13 miles
The chalk hills of south
Bedfordshire, which offer many fine views over the surrounding
countryside, are the setting for this short ride.
The ride starts from the
Sundon Hills Country Park. Turn left outside the gate, left again
in ¾ mile at Sundon and still keeping left, follow the road to
Streatley and Sharpenhoe. Go down the steep 1 in 8 hill with
care, passing Sharpenhoe Clappers on the right.
At the bottom of the hill
turn right for Barton, crossing the A6 view a bridge. In Barton
turn right at the Royal Oak, and then left up a one way street
turning left again towards Hexton, which is about a 1 ½ mile
ride. At Hexton take the right turn to Lilley. From the top of
the hill the view to the left is of Telegraph Hill which lies
on the Icknield Way.
In just over a mile take
the right turn to Streatley. Take care crossing the A6, and follow
the signs back to the Sundon Hills Country Park.1
