Dunstable Downs

Distance - 12 miles

This short ride winds through the chalk downland hills of Dunstable and Whipsnade Downs and Totternhoe Knolls.

The ride can begin from Dunstable town centre or Dunstable Downs.

Leave Dunstable by West Street and start a gentle climb to Whipsnade Road (B4541). Turn left up to Dunstable Downs, the highest point in Bedfordshire.

Keep to the right at the fork in the road. At the crossroads take the Whipsnade road (B4540) to the right. Continue towards the Wild Animal Park and on to the top of a steep downhill which has a slope of 1 in 6. Take great care on the descent as there are several tight bends. At the T-junction turn right, and at the roundabout go straight across towards Eaton Bray. Pass straight through Eaton Bray and follow the Totternhoe road to the junction. Turn right towards Dunstable.

Keep on the Dunstable road for about 2 miles, climbing steadily to the main road, where a left turn leads back to West Street.
