Rail Trail - Barmouth - Dolgellau (Mawddach Estuary), mid Wales

One of the most scenic railway paths in the country, running along the spectacular and atmospheric Mawddach Estuary. More beautiful than the Camel Trail with a fraction of the visitors!

The Route: Barmouth Bridge - Penmaenpool - junction of A493 and A470 to the east of Dolgellau.

Distance: 6.5 miles one way, 13 miles both.

Start & Parking: The Harbour in Barmouth. Car parks also on the south side of Barmouth Bridge at Morfa Mawddach Station and at Penmaenpool (on the A493 to the west of Dolgellau).

Surface & Hills: Stone and gravel path. No hills.

Roads & Road Crossings: Short section on road at the start in Barmouth.

Links or other nearby trails: Forest trails in Coed y Brenin north of Dolgellau. Railway path north from Criccieth to Caenarfon.
