With the advent of more and more cycle specific routes a new form of traffic signs are appearing that cyclists should be aware of. We include what we believe are the major signs appropriate to all cyclists but particularly the commuting, leisure and family cyclist who will encounter these signs perhaps more regularly than the racing or off-road cyclist.

Learn your signs

	Route for use by pedal cycles and pedestrians only (no separation)		With-flow cycle lane ahead. If the lane is marked with a solid white line all other vehicles are prohibited
	Segregated route for pedal cycles and pedestrians only (please keep to the correct side)		With-flow cycle lane
	Ground marking on pedestrian side of shared use route		Contra-flow cycle lane
	Cycle lane and ground marking on cyclists side of shared use route.		Cycle lane on road at junction ahead or cycle track crossing road
	Advisory cycle crossing markings (no cycle priority)		Light signals for the control of pedal cycles only
	End of cycle lane, track or route (Return to road, it is illegal to ride on a footpath)		Start of with-flow pedal cycle and bus lane
	Route recommended for pedal cycles which differs from that for other traffic. 6 Sustrans Route Number (National Cycle Network)		Cycle route ahead
	Pedal cyclists to dismount (in the interest of public safety)		No cycling
	Route for cyclists only		No entry for all vehicles (INCLUDING PEDAL CYCLES)
	No through road except for pedal cycles		No motor vehicles (cycling permitted)
